A SharePoint Wiki is a quick and easy and out of the box solution. Apart from being easy to implement, it has features that are more than adequate for most applications. But let's [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] take things step by step, starting with a basic explanation for what a Wiki means, in general.
The word comes from 'wikiwiki' which in Hawaiian means 'quick'. The relevance here is that it's fast and easy to use to create or edit the site's inter-connected pages. It's not required to know HTML markup or be familiar with the site's structure. Way it works is that the user adds a link where required, even if the link target page does not exist. The page can be created later by clicking on the link.
Such sites are often used where UGC (user generated content) is present, which typically need a large number of users who collaborate to create and manage the content. So there is a need to manage an enterprise level database of users and content that is constantly being edited and created. Needless to say, the software or scripts used will need to be especially robust and reliable to handle the flood of data and users.
There are quite a few dedicated solutions which can be used to setup fully functional Wikis. But the point here is to make things simple, and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] in that spirit, there [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is one solution that [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] makes even [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the setup a breeze. That solution is the SharePoint Wiki, which is one among many of the sites that can be created [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] using Microsoft's SharePoint Server.
The main aim of this server is to facilitate collaborative efforts within [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and from [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] outside a company's network, by setting up portals, websites and applications. Different users can be granted separate access permissions and it allows for sharing data and collaboration on documents and projects between employees, customers, suppliers and others on an enterprise level. Given such functionality, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] it's no big surprise that the SharePoint Wiki is a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] perfect match as a component in this server.
The process of creating it is also about the same as setting up other sites, with only a name for the site and basic information about the user permissions required. Once it is selected as the site type, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the user gets to see some additional things. For instance, a toolbar offers direct access to edit mode for a page. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] It's also possible to see a list of the previous edits to the page, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and the list of latest pages that have been changed.
Note that there are two types of sites that can be created here. One is a library and one is a site. When the SharePoint Wiki Library is created, it includes two pages by default - the home page and a how-to help page. When a site is created, it automatically creates [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] a library within whose home page is used as a default page for the site.
If [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the SharePoint Wiki is part of a bigger site, the user permissions can be inherited as is from the site. If it needs any special user access permissions, these can be specified separately. That's about all there is to it, and this simplicity in creation and use is one of the main reasons why it is an 'out of the box' solution.
