Introduction to Handball
Centaur Daily Trader members are used to the usual analysis on football, horse racing, cricket etc but last week we introduced them to a new sport - handball. Ian, our resident handball expert, has provided us with an introduction below and this will be followed shortly by an introduction to Futsal.
The game of handball is played over two halves of 30 minutes duration. Goals are scored by throwing the ball into the net, usually from just out side a D-shaped penalty error. Bad discipline results in expulsion for two minutes or dismissal from the game. Seven metre throws are awarded for foul play and about 70% of those throws result in goals.
The sport is ideal for betting, as there are always plenty of goals and swings Cheap NFL Tickets in momentum. A rough average across all the leagues and nations is that a goal is scored once in just over a minute. There are generally 10% less goals in the first half than the second half.
Handball is a hugely popular spectator and betting sport across Europe. I spent some time working for a prominent European based online bookmaker. At that company handball louboutin pas cher was the fourth most popular betting nike air jordan pas cher sport in terms of turnover after soccer, tennis and ice hockey.
It's an interesting aspect of the game for betting purposes that scoring percentages for the two teams are often similar for both halves. So, if a team is leading by 3 at half-time they can often win the game by 6 or 7 goals.
Motivation is a key factor when assessing betting opportunities for the sport. A marginal drop in playing ability, by as little as 10%, is reflected in the scoring patterns. Home advantage is also highly significant across all leagues and competitions.
For some reason handball is of little interest to sports followers in the United Kingdom. In the current world rankings, which includes about 70 nations, this country is not even featured because we don't play enough matches to allow for assessment.
Great Britain have taken up the option to enter a team for the men's handball competition at next year's Olympics. The reasoning behind this decision is that our appearance will promote the sport and achieve a long term legacy objective of the Games.
However, I think Britain's inclusion will doudoune moncler have a detrimental effect on the sport here. I believe the host country will lose each match by a large margin and this can only damage the perception of the sport in this country.
From a domestic point of view the main leagues for the men's game are in Germany, Spain and the Scandinavian countries. When I lived and worked in Gibraltar I went to some matches in the main Spanish league. The venues were always packed out and many matches are shown live on Spanish television.
The sport is also very popular in Germany where live television coverage encourages betting and large followings of the major clubs. In addition to the top Bundesliga there are also regional leagues in the north and south of the country.
The European game is administered by the European Handball Federation. They run and promote the European Championships and the Champions League. It is an excellent site for results and fixtures.
The latter competition is very similar to the Champions League in soccer. Teams qualify through their standing in the domestic leagues. In the last seven years only teams from Spain and Germany have won the competition which reflects the strength of the leagues in those countries. Spanish teams have won the competition 14 times and teams from Germany 12 times. The nations with the next highest number of wins have won on just three occasions.
There are also two minor European competitions namely the EHF Cup and Cup Winner's Cup. These are the equivalent of the European soccer competitions that existed before the Cup Winner's Cup was abolished. German teams have won the EHF Cup for the last eight years.
The leagues in Spain and Germany have the most liquidity so we will focus on those games. The national events also attract good money on Betfair, such as the European Championships which take place next January in Serbia. You will be able to bet on the matches, handicaps and total goals during these championships.
The world game comes under the control of the International Handball Federation. They administer the game and organise the World Championships which were last played earlier this year and won by France.
There were 98 games in total played in the World Championships. Betfair screened every game live and as there were no clashes up to six games a day were relayed, as they happened. The liquidity was excellent for these games which is the case for any national and domestic games shown on channels such as Eurosport.
The world championships are always won by a European team, as there are no teams from other parts of the world that can compete at this level. Sweden, France and Romania have the most wins at four each. The tournament is held every two years and Spain are the hosts in 2013.
The Bundesliga in Germany began last weekend and the Spanish league begins this weekend. The first stages of the Champions League are scheduled for the end of the month and the European Championships are staged early next year.
Trader Club members will receive analysis and trading recommendations on the sport for these competitions.
Handball is an Olympic sport, so I can see betting interest in this country increasing, as awareness is promoted and increased leading up to the Games of 2012.
The Time is right for Rupert
Time For Rupert was a high class staying hurdler a couple of seasons ago and won three strong events when sent off at double figure odds. In between these victories came disappointing performances over shorter trips which can be easily excused, as he simply does not have the pace to be competitive over two and a half miles. He was seen to best effect over staying hogan outlet trips, so it was no surprise to see him gain a win and two seconds over three miles at Cheltenham. The latter of these came on his final career start in the World Hurdle when he ran a fantastic race behind Big Bucks. Although Time For Rupert was very good over the smaller obstacles, his long term future always looked likely to be over fences, as he is a strong, well built animal with a great galloping stride.
Paul Webber's stable-star did not disappoint on his chase debut at Cheltenham when putting in a supreme round of jumping. He had a whole host of subsequent winners behind him on that occasion, most of whom went on to compete in group races towards the end of last season. It was most encouraging abercrombie uk that Time For Rupert was able to win over an extended two and a half miles, as he was sure to improve when stepped up in distance. Next time out at Cheltenham he built on the promise of his debut when readily brushing aside a very useful opponent in Chicago Grey. The step up to the extended three miles brought about further improvement and the style in which he drew clear on the run in made Time For Rupert look like a quality prospect for the future.
Paul Webber's gelding looked a 'good thing' in the RSA Chase on his next start and it was both disappointing and surprising when he only finished fifth. However, he was later reported to have broken a blood vessel during the race, so that form needs to be ignored.
Time For Rupert has been aimed exclusively at Cheltenham in his last six starts and has clearly taken a great liking to the track. He has, however, shown that he is not just a 'one trick pony' as he won a listed race at Aintree and early in his career proved his ability to go right-handed when landing a novice hurdle at Huntingdon.
The son of Flemensfirth, who is likely to make his reappearance at Cheltenham in November, has all the credentials to make a top class chaser. With the likes of Kauto barbour factory shop Star and Denman past their best, the staying division needs a new star and this looks the perfect time for Rupert to shine.
The X Factor
No long introduction this week so straight into the auditions from last Saturday.
David Wilder - a 42 year old unemployed rock star hollister from London - or so he has us believe! Ambition is to be a rock legend like David Bowie and sang Life on Mars. Went walkabouts in the audience and unfortunately they let him back on stage. Audience loved him and Gary Barlow said "It was so wrong, it was so good." He does have a 'rasping' sort of rock voice like Steven Tyler from Aerosmith (not in the same league) and if the judges are looking for something different in the Over 25 category, then David Wilder could be it. hollister outlet sale Judges House - Possible.
A montage of 16 year olds then blew the judges away and maybe one of Lemul Knights, Max Mackay or Lizzie Colbourne will be on the shortlist when the final places are being decided.
Luke Lucas - 16 years old from Margate. Is this a clue, in that we were shown the full audition of Luke Lucas and not the other 16 year olds? This week we had the L (love) Factor for Tulisa, after Derry's infatuation for Kelly last week. Who will have the L Factor for Louis, I wonder...I don't want to go there. Sang Who's Loving You by Michael Jackson. Strong voice, great stage presence, confident, good personality and winning smile. I get the feeling only one 16 year boy and girl will go to the judges house, and with Janet Devlin likely to be the girl then Luke Lucas could be the boy. JH - YES.
Michael Lewis - an unemployed 27 year old. Came last year as Michael Jackson and couldn't sing (I remember only too well). Wanted to be himself this year and not behind a mask. Needn't have bothered, completely out of tune. JH - NO.
We were then treated to a few other auditionees who couldn't sing. Why do they barbour outlet bother!!
Jade Richards - a 21 year old student from Fife. Sang peuterey outlet Someone Like You by Adele. Emotional, brilliant, standing ovation (including judges). I watched this twice and had tingles both times. KR was in tears and said she had the X Factor and then some. GP said that performance would change her life. Louis was also in tears. Not much more I can say. JH - YES (certainty)
That's the end of week 3 and this weekend I will have another two episodes to watch, as they have a double-header.

SOL MOUVANT, FRIABLE
Sol mouvant, friable.
