Louisville Colorado is a small town with a big heart located just east of the Rocky Mountains. This town is known for its great commitment to community, its stable job market and its love for the great outdoors. This little town, which is now a grand total of 8.6 square miles, has a rich history which is part of its draw. Louisville was first established with the start of the Welch Mine in [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] 1877. A local landowner, name Louis Nawatny, plotted his land naming for it himself. The first mine to operate was know as the Northern Coalfield. Much of the mining was done in cold winter months as this is was the time when fuel was in demand for heating. One thing is for sure however, these tunnels were used by miners and their families for protection from 1910-1914 during a time of violent labor conflicts and mining strikes. Eventually mining stopped in this area [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] around 1950 as the major coal supply became increasingly uneconomical to mine.

Many of the old mining buildings, restaurants, and homes still remain today in downtown Louisville. The city now offers its residents a recreational and senior center, over twenty city parks, tons of open space areas, several large dog [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] parks, twenty miles [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of hiking and biking trails, a brand new public library, six public schools, six private schools, a lively night life, world class cuisine, and plenty of shopping and entertainment!
