Alongside this, Manchester's transport network developed significantly, facilitating the efficient distribution of both raw materials and finished goods around the country. The canal system was developed and a passenger railway between Manchester and Liverpool was built. Today, Manchester is a truly post-industrial city. The majority of its mills, factories and warehouses have been converted into offices, apartments or nightclubs, and the ubiquitous smog has vanished.
