The 1954 Gibson Les Paul Custom has always been one of my favourite guitars and I have never forgiven myself for many years ago passing on the chance to buy an excellent condition, original model for a very low price. Oh well, we all make mistakes.

1. This was Gibson's first luxury version of the Les Paul model. The gold top version was introduced in 1952, but this all black custom guitar was its flagship. There was also a larger headstock design with a pearl split diamond inlay and also gold-plated hardware throughout.
2. It was the first Gibson guitar to include the revolutionary Tune-o-matic (ABR-1) and stopbar tailpiece working together. This was a huge step forward and a major improvement on previous designs.
